More additional funds for lawmakers to support BBL, not true – Malacanang

MANILA, March 6 -– When there’s smoke, there’s fire. Malacanang on Friday denied speculations that additional funds will be given to lawmakers who will support the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).

”They might speculate that we will use PDAF. There’s no more PDAF,” Palace spokesperson Abigail Valte said when asked if Malacanang has promised additional fund to the lawmakers.

Valte, however, said Malacanang will continue to “reach out” with the members of Congress to explain and answer their queries about the proposed BBL.

She clarified Malacanang is not against the plan to amend the draft submitted to the Senate and the House of Representatives.

”What we are just asking is to preserve the spirit of what we want to achieve,” the spokesperson said.

Both Houses of Congress have decided to suspend their respective public hearings on the proposed BBL following the bloody Mamasapano encounter that left 44 Special Action Force (SAF) troopers dead on January 25.

Meanwhile, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) Secretary Teresita Deles said on Friday, Malacanang fully respects Congress’ powers on deciding the final version of the proposed BBL.

On the timeframe of passing the BBL, Deles said that the Executive Branch trusts Congress to pass it on the proper time.

The BBL is the enabling law of the signed Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro or CAB between the Government of the Philippines and Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

So, how close to being truthful are these Malacanang tenants telling the people? (with PNA report)
