LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 7 — Some 1,500 senior police officers from Bicol will be detailed next week in Tacloban city during the visit of Pope Francis in the Eastern Visayas.
According to BIcol PNP chief Supt. Victor P. Deona, the police officers will provide security during the Pontiff’s visit.
The regional brigade-size contingent will be led by Senior Supt. Romulo Esteban, assistant regional director for operations, and composed of augmented forces from six provincial offices of the region.
“The security contingent will be composed of three battalions of three companies or teams each,” Deona stressed.
Some of the police officers were previous Typhoon Yolanda veterans, having been deployed in Tacloban during the November 2013 relief and rescue operations.
