While the visit of Pope Francis in the Philippines spans Jan 15-19, 2015, or five days, yet there are only two select occasions when the public can take a live glimpse of the Holy Father.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle said that two events of Pope Francis’ apostolic visit will be open to the public.

Cardinal Tagle said that events open include the Masses that will be held at the Tacloban City airport in Leyte on January 17 at 10:00AM and at the Luneta Park in Manila on January 19, 3:30PM.

All the other activities, he said, are by invitation only.

Take for instance when the Pope will have an orchestrated encounter with the families at the Mall of Asia at 5:30 p.m.. on the 16th of January where only representatives from different sectors or provinces will get the choice accommodation.

In that event, archdioceses and dioceses will get to send a representative for a privileged gathering with the Pope which has a seating capacity of 13,000. Families will get the nod from the bishops of each diocese.

In a mass scheduled in Manila Cathedral on January 16th at 11:15AM, some 2,000 bishops, priests and religious individuals will be able to get an accommodation. The persistent public but not lucky to get in will have to view the proceedings on a video wall set up outside the church.

Another “private” gathering will happen at the Palo Cathedral when the Pope meets the members of the clergy and religious congregations. The event will highlight the blessing of the Pope Francis center for the Poor.

At the University of Sto. Tomas, Pope Francis will briefly meet religious leaders and get an orchestrated encounter with the youth on the 18th of January.
