The New Port of Pio Duran Unlocks Southwestern Bicol

Daily schedule of trips of RORO vessels and Kumpits to and from Pio Duran and Masbate and Claveria.

The formal opening of the port of Pio Duran town of Albay ushers a new era for people and business to open up or look forward to progress. The modern roll-on, roll-off facilities of the port will serve primarily the southwestern Bicol.

The port will cater to RORO vessels that will ply thru the shipping routes on daily scheduled round trips between Pio Duran and Masbate city (Masbate island/province) and Pio Duran and Claveria town of Burias island, Masbate province. Smaller but efficient kumpits or motorized bancas will dock at the port for daily scheduled round trips between Pio Duran and Claveria.

Previous to the commercial opening of the port, bus services between Manila and Masbate have to use the RORO facilities of the port of Pantao in Libon town which is much farther away and exposes travelers to a longer duration of sea travel.

The project cost the government itemized at P60.4 million for the port’s rock causeway and P14 million for the RO-RO ramp.

The transport support infrastructure was inaugurated by third district congressman Fernando Gonzalez, Albay governor Joey Salceda and mayor Dante Arandia.

Philippine Ports Authority officials and executives of three shipping lines- Montenegro Shipping Lines, Medallion Transport Inc. and Santa Clara Shipping attended the inauguration. The transport firms launched their respective inaugural and maiden voyages to Masbate, the Visayas and Mindanao.
