Newly elected and first term congressman Luis Raymond Villafuerte of the second district of Camarines Sur was handed down a preventive suspendion order by the Sandiganbayan.
On Wednesday the graft court ordered the suspension for 90 days of the former Camarines Sur governor who held the post for nine years from 2004 up to 2013 or three terns.
The court ordered Villafuerte to cease and desist from further performing or exercising his functions, duties and privileges for a period of 90 days.
Earlier, Villafuerte was charged for his alleged misuse of P20 million public funds from January to April 2010.
The graft complaint came from former provincial board member Carlo Batalla against the ex-governor in July 2011.
It alleged the questionable purchase of fuel by the provincial government from an entity identified as Jeffrey Lo without public bidding.
The Sandiganbayan has furnished a copy of the resolution to Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez for the implementation of the suspension order.
Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas told reporters Thursday the House of Representatives will take action on the suspension of Villafuerte by the graft court.
The congressman from Ilocos Norte chairs the rules committee which will act on the resolution five days from receipt of the order.
Luis Raymond Villafuerte is the father of re-elected provincial governor Miguel Luis “Migz” Reyes Villafuerte and the son of Luis Villafuerte.
The Villafuertes have held the reigns of the province since 1986 until now with a one term three year gap in 1992-1997 during the term of former Libmanan mayor Jose Bulaong.
