Albay decamps 34,151 Mayon evacuees

LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 6 — Albay governor Jose Salceda finally gave the green light for 9,841 families or 34,151 people within seven to eight-kilometer-radius danger zone to decamp.

The directive was issued Tuesday afternoon during the cluster meeting of disaster officials presided by regional officer Raffy Alejandro for disaster risk reduction and management council, and Cedric Daep of Albay public safety and emergency management office at AECID hall.

“Upon consultation with the Phivolcs and Mayon mayors, as based on the hazard review and vulnerability update (population at risk) using the new markers identifying the 6-km-radius permanent danger zone of Mayon volcano, residents from 33 barangays are allowed to return to their residences,” the governor said.

The evacuees to be decamped came from the villages of Oson, San Isidro, Buhian in Tabaco City; San Roque and Canaway in Malilipot; Lidong, Fidel Surtida, Sta. Misericordia, San Fernando and San Isidro in Sto. Domingo; Budiao, Alcala, Miisi, Salvacion, Matnog and Banadero in Daraga; Cabangan, Quirangay, Salugan, Sua and Tumpa in Camalig; Maninila, Muladbucad Grande, Muladbucad Pequeno, Tandarora, Masarawag, Dona Tomasa and Maipon in Guinobatan town; and Tambo, Nabonton and Amtic in Ligao.

Meanwhile some evacuees will remain in camps, 4,191 or 17,549 people from the villages of Magapo, Comon, Buang, Mariro and Nagsipit in Tabaco City; Calbayog in Malilipot; non-relocated residents of Miisi in Daraga, Anoling (non-relocated population only), Cabangan’a Purok 6, Quirangay’a Purok 4-7, Sua’a Purok 67 in Camalig; upper Muladbucad Grande in Guinobatan; ang Baligang in Ligao City.

At least 12,757 families or 57,000 people were housed in 39 temporary evacuation camps from the municipalities of Guinobatan, Camalig, Daraga, Sto. Domingo, Malilipot and the cities of Ligao and Tabaco since Sept. 15. (from PNA report by Ryhayds B. Barcia)
