Different political fences. Will history deny a Bicolano seat to the second highest national elective post because of great political divide and opportunism? Four Bicol-born candidates squabbling for one seat. Just the right playing field one vice-presidential candidate from the north needs.
Robredo, Escudero, top political advertisers on ABS-CBN.
Independent Partido Galing at Puso vice-presidential candidate Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Daang Matuwid Coalition Liberal Party vice-presidential candidate Ma. Leonor Robredo topped the list among candidates for national position who have spent more for television advertising with ABS-CBN alone.
According to the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, 15 candidates running for a national position, ranging from president, vice-president and senator, have so far spent P373-M for television advertisement just for one network, ABS-CBN.
Data was gathered from report submitted to the Commission on Elections on advertising contracts as of March 3, 2016. The Comelec requires media agencies to submit copies of contracts every 30th day during the three months covering the official campaign period.
Bicolanos running for the seccond highest national postion ad spending spree.
Camarines Sur 3rd district representative Maria Leonor ‘Leni’ Robredo through ad agency Mediacom and represented by Kriselle Cabaero, senior media planner, and Anna Kristina Hormillo, media manager has acquired two ad contracts with ABS-CBN worth P18,027,111 and P23,252,083.
The ABS receipts showed payment for the ads came from Robredo herself. For ABS-CBN ads alone, Robredo has already spent P82.56 million, or four times more than Roxas’s ads in the same network.
Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero, with ad agency Y&R MEC Media represented by Van Nadres, acquired five contracts, the first for P41,023,350, a second for P335,835, a third for P14,104,772, a fourth for P14,219,410, and a fifth for P2,2704,229, at ABS.
He had spent P2 million on pre-campaign ads, but after February 9, Escudero began campaign with more ads. His bill as of March 3 of P92.39 million propped himto the top spot at ABS’ ad-placement.
Independent candidate for vice president Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV of Magdalo Party has signed two contracts with ABS-CBN with P9,140,650 and P465,240 for TV and radio spots, for a total of P9.606 million. The senator is listed to have settled tha ads himself.
The list below shows seven of the 15 candidates come from the apparently richly funded Liberal Party of President Benigno S. Aquino III.
Francis Escudero P92,387,596
Ma. Leonor Robredo (LP) P82,558,388
