MANILA, March 4 — In the continuing hostilities in conflict-torn areas in Mindanao, government forces suffered yet another set of fatalities.
Three soldiers, two of them officers, were killed after the resupply column they were in were mined and ambushed by suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandits in Patikul town, Sulu Wednesday morning.
Col. Restituto Padilla, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson, said the incident took place at 11: 55 a.m. as the military convoy consisting of two KM-450 troop carriers and one M-45 truck were passing through Pangalayahan Road, Barangay Pansul.
This also triggered a two-hour firefight which resulted in the wounding of six troopers. It was not immediately clear whether the military fatalities were killed by initial explosion or in the firefight. All the fatalities are members of the 32nd Infantry Battalion. (PNA)
