PH holds kick-off ceremony on APEC 2015 hosting

On Monday, the kick-off ceremony will be held in Makati City with President Benigno S. Aquino III leading the event. It will be hosted by the government’s partners at the Department of Trade and Industry which will be held at 5 p.m.The unveiling of the Philippines’ hosting logo for APEC 2015 is one of the highlight of the event.

ARMM spending package for 2015 tops P24-B

The Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is getting a bigger spending package envisioned to respond to the needs of the community and push the much-needed development in the region, according to Senator Francis Escudero. An increase of 24-percent to P24 billion has been allotted for the region in the 2015 budget, said the senator, chair of the Senate Committee on Finance.

Health Secretary Ona is extending his leave – Malacañang

Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Secretary Ona has denied submitting a letter of resignation to the President on Thursday. Secretary Ona’s status now depends on the outcome of the assessment of the President. Ona went on a medical leave on October 28 purportedly because he had eczema and had an allergic reaction to a hair dye he used.

Japanese study confirms e-cigarette contains more carcinogens 

A team of researchers from the Japaneses Health Ministry disclosed that the vapor was found to contain carcinogens like formaldehyde and cetaldehyde. Formaldehyde was verified to be 10 times more than the traditional tobacco-filled cigarettes. The finding debunks the marketing strategy that e-cigarette is a safe option to smoking and not a threat to human health.

Euro countries scramble to bring home gold reserves
European Union countries are in the scramble to retrieve and reclaim their gold back to their own national vaults. This is somehow brought about by the financial crisis some of European countries are mired into. According to reports, the Netherlands has moved 122 tons of gold worth $5 billion from the New York vaults already. It is considered 20 per cent of its total of 612.5 metric tons of gold reserves in November.

SSS pensioners and beneficiaries to get 13th month bonus

Good news for the 1.9 million pensioners of the Social Security System who are bound to receive their 13th month pay this December as part of the tradition which began in 1998. The total amount of SSS fund for release will amount to P6 billion. The 13th month bonus is equivalent to one month pension of a retiree or survivor pensioner, but carer’s allowance for disability pensioner is excluded.

PH economy slows down to 5.3% in third quarter

The county’s economy slowed down, as the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by only 5.3 percent in the third quarter of 2014. This is the lowest in almost three years. This is lower than the growth rates of 6.4 percent in the second quarter of 2014 and 7.0 percent in the third quarter of 2013.

PH to boost coco industry expansion with P1.38-B fund

The Philippine Coconut Authority is a recipient of P1.38 billion funding from the government for its operations and programs that can help strengthen the country’s coconut industry.The fund released by the Department of Budget and Management was charged against the 2014 national budget, will pay for the agency’s operating requirements and locally- funded projects for the second semester of the year.

Science high schools in Mindanao get P6M funding

Science high schools in Mindanao get P6-M funding. Two new regional campuses of the Philippine science high school (PSHS) in Mindanao recently received P6 million allocation for the salaries and other compensation of its personnel. The funding will cover the personnel services requirements of twenty seven teaching and non-teaching positions.

DPWH sacks Bicol district engineers again

The Department of Public Works and Highways sacked two district engineers and two assistant district engineers in Bicol. Ordered relieved by Secretary Rogelio Singson are Masbate 2nd district engineer Edgar M. Curativo, Albay 1st district engineer Teodoro Castillo, Catanduanes District Engineering Office assistant district engineer Gil Balmadrid and assistant district engineer Romeo Cielo of the Sorsogon 2nd DEO.
