Mactan-Cebu airport get award for best transport deal in Asia Pacific

President Benigno S.Aquino III led government officials during the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Mactan-Cebu International Airport passenger terminal building.

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal Passenger Building project, has received an international recognition from a reputable press institution.

Thomson Reuters’ Project Finance International (PFI) hailed the public-private parnership project that was awarded to GMR Infrastructure and Megawide Consortium as the “2015 Best Transport Deal” in Asia-Pacific (APAC) last December 2015.

The airport project involves the construction of a new world-class passenger terminal building.

The Philippine government turned over the operation and maintenance to the private partner last Nov. 1, 2014. Its construction started in July 2015.

There are various upgrades and changes that have been implemented after the turn over which include greener terminal building with new seats, washrooms are being renovated, new self-service check-in kiosks have been installed, new immigration, customs and quarantine counters are in place, among others.
