Driven by the ASEAN Open Skies framework, airlines in the region, are up to stiff competition between and among its operators.
The new regime on the regional airline industry allows an ASEAN-based carrier unlimited fifth freedom rights to fly from one member country to any city in the region. A business environment never available before.
So Philippine Airlines is in the upbeat mood in taking advantage of the opportunity .
According to its president Jaime Bautista, the airline intends to connect the region to PAL’s vast global network.
Bautista stressed that it will pursue its intended expansions to the rest of the world and showcase the beautiful places of the county and its neighboring southeast Asian economies.
Bautista disclosed his airline’s fleet expansion will see the entry of 33 more new planes until 2024.
But first, a delivery is forthcoming of two Boeing 777-300ERS. He volunteered that the plane model is the current flagship aircraft of Asia’s first airline now on its 75th year of service.
It must be noted that PAL earlier ordered six new Airbus A350-900’s.
The current crafts in its stable, specifically its A330 will undergo a cabin reconfiguration from a mono-class service to tri-class.
After the works, the cabin will significantly reduce available seats from 414 to 309. The change will be huge compromise on passenger load factor but great enhancement on passenger convenience, comfort and mobility while on flight.
