The report said the rebels planted an improvised explosive device (IED) in the road where the policemen were to pass, but which was picked up by Aguinaldo and Rubianes. Earlier, it was the elements of the Philippine Army’s 22nd Infantry Battalion that discovered the planted improvised bomb,

The two police officers were about to bring this bomb to their station but did not notice that the rebels were already in ambush position. Philippine Army soldiers responded as the ambush area was just near their camp, saving the two police officers.
