Strange bed-fellows: Albay LP provincial chairman and governor Joey Sarte Salceda endorses People's Reform Party senatorial candidate Francis Tolentino whose presidential candidate is Miriam Defensor Santiago. He is also a guest candidate in the line-up of presidential hopeful Rodrigo Duterte. Tolentino was born in Guinobatan, Albay. Photo sourced from facebook page of Tolentino.
After the widely publicized news attributed to Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, about the unfinished Bicol International Airport and the Liberal Party candidates, the provincial chief executive clarified on Wednesday that his statement was misinterpreted.
He said during the visit of People’s Reform Party senatorial candidate Francis Tolentino, a news correspondent asked about the status of the airport. Salceda said Tolentino has no answer.
“So, I rescued him and my direct quote is ‘The Bicol International Airport is a legitimate issue. Kun madaog si Roxas, basulon si Abaya (If Roxas loses, blame Abaya).’ Nothing more and nothing else; anything less or anything more is pure malice,” the governor said.
In the news it was made to appear that Salceda warned of the possibility that Albay may dump Roxas for the failure of the Aquino administration to finish as promised the P3.5-billion Bicol International Airport at Barangay Alobo, Daraga, Albay.
The construction of the P1.7-billion BIA project was stalled by the Department of Transportation and Communication despite a winning bidder. (from PNA report / Connie B. Destura)
Francis Tolentino was the former Metro Manila Development Authority chairperson who quit his post to run with the Liberal Party senatorial line-up.
He was later dropped like a hot potato after an obscene performance of entertainer group Play Girls during the party convention in Santa Cruz in Laguna province.
