Upswing trend in Bicol tourism noted

LEGAZPI CITY, April 4 -– Bicol tourism made a noticeable upswing trend in 2013 as some 3.2 million visitors arrived in the past year with an estimated P1.9 billion revenue earned on tourist-related activities.

Maria Ong-Ravanilla, regional tourism director, said of the 3.2 million tourist arrivals, 2.5 million were domestic while 693,548 were foreign.

The tourist arrivals generated 3.9 million local jobs and benefited 556 hotel establishments with 9,497 room occupancy.

Foreign tourists that visited the region mostly came from the United States with 104,381; China – 44,805; Germany – 34,844; Korea – 26,021; Australia – 23,889; Canada – 23,431; Japan – 16,802; India – 15,462; United Kingdom – 12,402; and France – 10,837.
