Power blackout caused by blocking of transmission system from Luzon to Visayas. Flow of power from Luzon going to the Visayas has been stopped after a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system has been blocked, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported Friday.
The grid operator, however, did not elaborate on the cause of the blockage.
Relatively, the strong winds brought by typhoon “Yolanda” has made the whole provinces of Samar, Leyte, Bohol and Cebu and the islands of Negros and Panay without power.
In Samar and Leyte, all the 69kV lines tripped as well as the 230kV lines of Marshalling-Tabango lines 1 and 2, and the Ormoc-Marshalling lines 1 and 2.
Some 138kV lines in the provinces also tripped and these are the Ormoc-Isabel, Ormoc-Babatngon, Ormoc-Maasin, Babatngon-Paranas lines 1 and 2, Paranas-Calbayog line 2, Ormoc-Tongonan, Maasin-Ubay and Ormoc-Cabacungan.
Bohol’s power supply was cut after all the transmission lines in the province were affected by the cyclone.
Similarly, the power outage in Cebu was caused by the tripping of the Toledo-Colon 138kV line.
Also, all the 138kV lines serving the island provinces of Negros and Panay tripped putting these islands in total darkness.
“Aerial patrol, inspection and restoration of lines in the affected areas will be in full swing as soon as the weather allows,” NGCP said
Meanwhile, the municipality of Mulanay in Quezon province is without power after the Pitogo-Mulanay 69kV line tripped due the Super Typhoon.
The same situation is being experienced in the municipalities of Bulan, Gubat, and Irosin in Sorsogon after the Sorsogon-Irosin 69kV line tripped.
Parts of Zamboanga del Sur is also without power after the Sta. Clara-Sirawai 69kV line tripped due to the bad weather.
On the other hand, the grid operator said it has fully restored the transmission service to Camarines Sur 1 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO I) and the Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO II) at around 5:50 p.m.
This after NGCP re-energized the Naga-Naga, Naga-Libmanan and Naga-Tinambac 69kV lines. (PNA report by Joann Santiago)
