LEGAZPI CITY, (PNA) Update — The police authorities would utilize the video footage of a close circuit television (CCTV) camera installed at the electronics repair shop where the shooting of Lupi mayor Raul Matamorosa took place last Saturday afternoon (October 27).
The other day, a witness came forward to tell the police what he saw during the killing of the mayor in barangay Concepcion Pequeña in Naga city,
Senior Police Officer 2 Randy Solano, Naga city police spokesman, said that they had secured the video footage and had sought services of technical experts to enhance images that could yield possible identification of the lone gunman and two other lookouts.
Solano admitted though that the video recorded long shots that gave them difficulty in recognizing the people present when a single shot was fired in close range by the suspect who approached the victim from behind.
“But we are optimistic that this video footage could be enhanced by our experts because it will really help a lot in identifying the suspects,” Solano said.
He said that the investigation of the case would be expedited with the the creation of Special Investigation Task Group Matamorosa (SITGM), which is a composite team of different law-enforcement units, including the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Solano said they are in the process of convincing other witnesses to come forward and give their testimonies that could be material in resolving the assassination.
“We will keep convincing them. As of now, they are still unwilling for fear of possible reprisal by the suspects,” he added.
Solano said they had posted the computer-generated cartographic sketches of two male suspects as described by the witnesses.
