FAREWELL: CARDINAL TAGLE from Archdiocese of Manila to influential VATICAN post

Outgoing Manila Archbishop Luios Antonio Cardinal Tagle
Former Archbishop of Manila, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle caps his 8-year stint in the archdiocese with a midnight mass celebration for the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Thursday, January 9, at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

This is it! The last officiated mass of the current Archbishop of Manila, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle which coincides with the midnight mass for the feast of the Black Nazarene of Quiapo on Thursday (January 9).

Bidding farewell was more momentous with a live audience of millions of devotees, other than online netizens, of the revered Catholic image. The mass at the Quirino Grandstand of Manila for the departing Cardinal caps his 8-year tenure in the archdiocese.

Tagle is set to fly to Rome, in Vatican, to formally take the post as head of a powerful office.

The Holy Father on December 8, 2019 appointed the Cardinal as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, in layman’s term, in charge of spreading the Catholic faith in most of the world.

The position is seen to become the second most important in the Vatican.

Previously, the most influential Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith once led by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger will be overshadowed in power and importance by the new office of Tagle. Cardinal Ratzinger was the late Pope Benedict XVI.

Pope Francis, who hails from Argentina is the first Jesuit pope. He is also the first from the Americas and the first from Southern Hemisphere. He also broke the record by being the first pope from outside Europe, since the Syrian Gregory III, way back in the 8th century.

The Pope is moving the Manila Cardinal, also a Jesuit, closer to his side. Interesting.
