MANILA — The “laglag-bala” dented Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will implement a heightened alert status
until June 20 as passengers using public transportation are expected to increase in time for the opening of classes.

MIAA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said that the airport is ready to accommodate students and teachers as they fly and return to their schools.

“While June may not be the busiest month for flying, management assures passengers that the same level of security will be implemented at the airport as that of the peak season,” Honrado said.

In June 2015, passengers totaled to 2.95-million which is an increase by more than a hundred thousand passengers compared to June 2014 when passenger volume was recorded at 2.80-million.

Government agencies operating at the airport including the Office for Transportation Security, and the Bureaus of Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine are expected to deploy sufficient personnel at their posts for smooth passenger flow.

The Airport Police Department (APD), the Aviation Security Group (ASG) of the Philippine National Police, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the local government units of Parañaque City and Pasay City will remain in charge of security and traffic.

The presence of police, public assistance, and medical teams of the airport will be visible at terminal help desks to assist passengers.

An Operations Center will monitor all operations at the airport aside from a maximum deployment of security personnel.
