MANILA, May 15 – Malacanang on Friday laud El Gamma Penumbra, a Filipino shadow play group, for winning the grand finals of Asia’s GotTalent on Thursday night at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
”We praise the group of El Gamma Penumbra for their success as champion of Asia’s Got Talent in Singapore,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a text message to Malacanang Press Corps.
The Filipino group won the hearts of the viewers of the show which was aired live over cable channel AXN for their final number which paid tribute to Mother Nature to the song “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas.
The El Gamma Penumbra, which started as a hip-hop crew from Tanauan, Batangas, defeated their closest opponent Khugsugtun, an ethnic band from Mongolia.
The first Asia’s Got Talent champion brought home US $100,000, having received two Golden Buzzers from the judges during the auditions and in the semifinals.
The Palace also commended the performances of two other Filipino finalists Gerphil Flores and Gwynet Dorado. Flores is a classical singer with roots from Sorsogon while Dorado is a 10-year-old singing sensation from Pangasinan province.
Malacanang failed to note, however, that Junior New System, the fourth group of Filipino talents also hurdled the final round and made Filipinos proud.
