On Monday, members of the Executive Committee of the National Security Council will meet at Malacanang.
At the behest of President Rodrigo Duterte, the Executive Committee of the National Security Council (EC-NSC) will meet at 5:45 in the afternoon.
Duterte will lead the EC-NSC to follow through on the agreements reached during the first meeting of the NSC Council Proper that was held on July 27, as well as the EC-NSC on Dec. 12, 2016.
Also up for discussion are matters that have recently emerged posing challenges to the national security.
Earlier on Friday the Palace expressed concern over the presence of Chinese ship in Benham Rise, a 13-million hectare undersea region located east of Luzon.
Information was based on the statement of Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana last Thursday that a Chinese ship has been spotted plying the Benham Rise for about three months last year.
The NSC is chaired by the President and composed of select members from the legislative and executive branches of government which include the Senate President, House Speaker, the Executive Secretary and specific members of the Cabinet.
The EC-NSC is mandated to discuss and review national security issues and concerns, the results of which are considered by the President in executing his duties.
The Council was created during the Quirino Administration through Executive Order (EO) No. 330, dated 01 July 1950. It was reorganized by virtue of EO No. 115, series of 1986.
