Completing the almost grandslam sleuth of Philippine beauties in various pageants around the world was the triumphant win of Bicolana stunner who hailed from Cataingan town of Masbate province.
Binibining Pilipinas 2013 Bea Rose Santiago was crowned 2013 Miss International in the beauty pageant held in Tokyo, Japan last week.
Gathered from the grapevine, the estranged father of Bea Rose who abandoned the family for another partner some long years ago, has no belief his daughter could win in the contest. But it’s all under the bridge now.
The morena stunner had her elementary and high school education in Cataingan and college years in Canada.
Now an international model, she bested 66 other contestants in the competition’s 53rd edition, held at Shinagawa Prince Hotel Hall in Tokyo.
Other Filipina beauties won honors for the country include Mutya Datul in the Miss Supranational contest in Belarus and Megan Young in the Miss World pageant in Indonesia.
To recap, the Philippines is most successful in the Miss International beauty pageant among the major international competitions, winning five times.
Santiago’s winning the pageant came eight years after Precious Lara Quigaman grabbed the Philippines’ fourth victory in the Miss International pageant. Three other Filipino women had won the crown: Gemma Cruz (1964), Aurora Pijuan (1970) and Melanie Marquez (1979).
Nathalie den Dekker of the Netherlands placed second, while Miss Friendship Casey Radley of New Zealand finished third. Miss Colombia Lorena Hermida and Miss Hungary Brigitta Otvos were the other two finalists.
In the 50th edition of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant in April she was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-International and Bb. Avon.
The Binibining Pilipinas 2013 competition also produced Datul, 2013 Miss Universe third runner-up Ariella Arida, and 2013 Miss Tourism Queen International semifinalist Cindy Miranda.
Bea Rose first entry in the pageant world was during the 2011 Mutya ng Pilipinas contest. She was proclaimed 2011 Mutya ng Pilipinas-Overseas Communities having represented the Filipino community of Canada.
