Bicolana Venus Raj Wins Premier Beauty Pageant

Twenty one year old Bicol lass Maria Venus Raj from the town of Bato here in the province of Camarines Sur, bested twenty three other beauty contestants and was crowned the new Bb. Pilipinas (Miss Philippines)-Universe Saturday evening at the Araneta Coliseum.

She was earlier awarded with the Best in Philippine Terno and Miss Friendship at the swimsuit and evening gown competitions held at the TV studios of GMA-7 in the city of Quezon on February 26th.

Venus hails from a poor family. Her father is a farmer while her mother is a dress maker. She made her way into college as a full scholar at the Bicol University in Legazpi city. She graduated cum laude in journalism.

Venus is not new in beauty pageant contests. She won as Miss Philippines Earth Eco Tourism 2008. The newly crowned beauty queen will represent the Philippines in the May 2010 Miss Universe tilt.

So, here we celebrate her win with a frame of one of my sister’s orchid.
