President Rodrigo Duterte is unhappy, and expressed dismay over the inability of mayors and governors to manage garbage in their localities.

Last Friday, while at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) office in Davao City, Duterte vowed to create a special body to look into the intelligence and discretionary funds of local officials.

He observed that many localities in the country are so dirty and yet the local chief executives are not doing anything about it.

“There is trash and garbage around and if you have to wait for the plastic to go inside the drainage every time there’s a downpour and excessive rain water, nagka-clog,” he said.

The President stressed that the governors and mayors could effectively manage their garbage because they have their own discretionary funds.

He vowed to create a special team that will help him review, including the intelligence fund of each LGU.

“Yan ang pinakamadaling mapasok sa bulsa eh. Yung mga mayor na hindi performing, you make your city clean and peaceful,” he said. (That is the easiest to place inside the pocket. Those mayors not performing).

Duterte cautioned that local officials who have beautiful offices and use expensive vehicles should be ashamed of themselves.
