Legazpi city, (PNA) — The Australian Agency for International Development will fund the construction of classrooms in areas of Bicol where Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) is being implemented.

The AusAid has entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Social Welfare and Development regional office in Bicol and the local government unit (LGU) of Donsol, Sorsogon where the project is to be piloted.

DSWD regional director Arnel Garcia signed the MOA in behalf of his agency while mayor Jerome Alcantara signed for the LGU during the recent project launch held in Donsol.

Garcia on Monday here said that for the first semester of 2013, a total of 83 classrooms and day-care centers in the pilot areas will be constructed to address the needs of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) children in terms of improving their access to education.

Other pilot areas are the municipalities of Claveria, Palanas and Cataingan in Masbate; and Libon, Pioduran, Manito and Rapu-Rapu in Albay.

A total grant of P89.76 million has been earmarked by the AusAid for this project, Garcia said.

All these pilot municipalities are beneficiaries of the Kalahi-CIDSS, a community-driven development approach wherein the community collectively gathers data on conditions existing in the community, analyze these conditions, and define appropriate development interventions to address identified needs.
