Why a second airport in CamSur will rise in San Jose.

Can’t get enough good airport in the province of Camarines Sur? Perhaps, this is why another airport project is coming up.

The Partido area in the province of Camarines Sur is getting its own airport.

According to administration drum beaters, it is a priority project of the Duterte administration’s vision to connect islands and far flung areas that will ensure accessibility of transport.

Transportation and Communications Secretary Arthur P. Tugade expressed that this is part of the President’s marching order under the Convenience Mobility of Transportation program.

Tugade was one of the guests during the staking ceremony of the proposed Partido Domestic Airport last February 17 together with Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, CAAP Director General Jim Sytiongco and some Chinese investors.

The new airport site at Sitio Bongliw, Barangay Pugay of San Jose town will be located on 80-hectare lot with the projected 1.6 kilometer-runway and 0.3 kilometer overrun. Another 30 hectares of land for the expansion of the 2.6 kilometers additional runway space will also be added.

Fourth district representative Arnulfo Fuentebella said that an initial P40M will be shouldered by the government as part of its P80M counterpart.

A private company will undertake the construction of the said airport.

Secretary Cusi welcomed the domestic airport to be built in the Partido area as one of the probable sites for additional gasoline stations and a possible location for a Solar Energy plant. He pledged his support and assured Fuentebella that he will immediately provide electricity at the airport once the ground works commence.

A Chinese representative from the Aviation Development Company and Solar Energy plant based in Hongkong said that the Chinese government fully supports their partnership with PDA as they look forward to the speedy approval of the DOTC of the said project.

The proposed airport is expected to spur economic growth, boost tourism and serve as a link to tourist spots in the area which include Atulayan and the Caramoan islands.

At present air travellers going to Camarines Sur use the Naga domestic airport located in capital town Pili.

Political observers consider this development as sign of censure by the Duterte administration of VP Leni Robredo, a resident of Naga City. Before being elected to the vice presidency, Robredo was one of the movers for the rehabilitation and improvement of the Naga airport.

Congressman Fuentebella supported the candidacy of Sen. Grace Poe during the 2016 local and national elections. He is a member of the super majority coalition in the current house of representatives. (PNA contributed to this story)
