Vice-presidentiasquabbles of Bicolanos loom in 2016 national elections
The upcoming 2016 national elections will make a mark in history for Bicol and the nation. It will be the first instance when the (national) position for vice president will be contested, among others, by four Bicolano politicians. It is a total blight in the unity call for the region which instead will be divided in political loyalty and beliefs.
Information gathered just in said that the United Nationalist Alliance has finally confirmed last Saturday the final running vice-presidential mate of current Vice-President Jejomar Binay is Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan. Honasan’s parents hailed from Sorsogon province.
Before the Camarines Sur 3rd district representative Leni Robredo’s “jumping-in” (to quote the Liberal party mode of entrapment, pulling for, and pushing over, for the candidacy of the good lady congresswoman, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero has announced his candidacy for the same position, in tandem with Sen. Grace Poe Llamanzares. While the latter two will run as independents, the prospect of being adopted as candidates of the Nationalist Peoples Coalition, the second biggest polital party, is very likely. Escudero before his stint as senator, represented the 1st district of Sorsogon where his family rules the provincial political scene.
But wait, in sophomore term Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, who traces his roots from Albay province, has also declared very recently his intention of running for the vice-presidency and adopting Grace Poe Llamanzares’ run for the presidency.
Bicolanos, policital afficionados and observers will have an added interesting side views to watch for. How will the six Bicol provinces support the four prominent candidates?
Non-Bicolanos running for the vice-presidency post include Nationalista Party members Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. who was not selected by the United Nationalist Alliance.
