Zamboanga hosts first city bird watching festival

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Feb. 25 — Almost there. Everything is ready for the holding of the first local bird festival to be hosted by the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) on Friday, February 27, here.

State college president Dr. Milabel Nazario made this announcement Tuesday, citing the bird festival is in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT), Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) and the local government.

Nazario said the have lined up activities such as lecture and symposiom, film showing and photo exhibit which will
be held at the school’s main campus while birdwatching at school’s wetlands.

The wetlands is also the aqua-culture site, documented as the first breeding ground of the Great Egret in the country.

The festival aims to attract tourists and bird enthusiast to visit the city.

With all amenities and platform for birdwatching now in place, the festival aims to sustain awareness on environmental protection and value on tourism.

Prof. Roderick Trio, committe chair of the event, said member of the bird club and some European countries have confirmed attendance.

Zamboanga hosted last year the 9th Philippine bird festival grazed with the presence of a dozen European bird enthusiasts.
