Legazpi City — The Bicol University will open next school year a medical school in its main campus in this city, according to Gov. Joey Salceda.

Its (prospective) medical students will use the facilities of the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH).

Meanwhile, the BRTTH also based in the city of Legazpi will get the necessary upgrading into a regional heart center soon under the Public-Private Partnership program.

The proposed upgrading will convert the hospital’s capability to perform heart procedures. It will be one among the eight heart centers in the country.

Formerly the Albay Provincial Hospital, it also operates as a cancer center and breast care unit in partnership with the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) in Quezon city and the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc. (PFBCI).

BRTTH was earlier designated as the lung and kidney center in the region.
