Katherine Dominique Lagrimas was proclaimed Miss Bicolandia 2010 in the pageant held at the new multi-million-peso Metro Naga Coliseum. She won over four other lovely Bicolana semi-finalists in the September 8 crowning ceremony.
The complete entourage of winners are: (L-R) 3rd Runner Up No. 7 Joana Angelica Romero (Naga), 2nd Runner Up No. 8 Cindy Abundabar (Goa), Ms. Bicolandia 2010 Catherine Dominique Lagrimas (Iriga), 1st Runner Up No. 14 Princess Arnillos (Nabua) and 4th Runner Up No. 11 Linda Buckland (Iriga)
Lagrimas, who reprised her entry in Miss Bicolandia was in the top ten finalists in last year’s pageant. She previously won first runner-up in Mutya ng Magayon 2009, second runner-up Miss Ibalong 2008, first runner-up Ms. Camarines Sur 2009, and one of the ten semi-finalists in the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2009. She was also crowned Ms. Tourism in the 2006 Ms. Iriga-Ms. Rinconada pageant.
She joins the rank of beautiful girls who claimed Iriga their home city and won the title of Miss Bicolandia like Brendalene Arroyo (1986), Janet Vargas Johnson (1995), Angeline F. Tucio (2002) and Aprille Maninang (2003).
Fourth runner-up Linda Buckland is the reigning Miss Iriga 2010. The 19-year-old lass of Fil-Swedish parents was aiming to get the Miss Bicolandia 2010 title. She was crowned Miss Camarines Sur in 2007 and Baybayon Festival’s Summer Babe 2010.
Ms. Bicolandia is the most prestigious beauty pageant held during the Peñafrancia festivities in Bicol with Naga city as the permanent venue.
Lagrimas (again) and Buckland are expected to join the 2011 Mutya ng Pilipinas contest.
Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up (read details on this link) Maria Venus Raj graced the occasion. She received a special citation in recognition of her triumph in the international beauty pageant.
Sidelight: Contestants dressed in black gowns during the evening presentation, presumably because of the untimely demise of (read details on this link) Melody Gersbach, Binibining Pilipinas-International 2009. Melody was a panelist of the 2010 Miss Bicolandia beauty search.
Good to note here, unlike previous years when the pageant was held on a Wednesday (in time for the Friday civic parade) before the traditional fluvial procession (Saturday) of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, the contest was made outside the official opening of the tercentenary.
This is in compliance of the requirement of the Catholic hierarchy in the region that the feast day will be observed with solemnity and be the focal point of celebration.
