Fifteen beautiful homegrown young maidens from different barangays of the town vie for the coveted crown of Miss Calabanga 2011.
The fairest maiden of all will grace the parade around major streets of the municipality in honor of the feast day of Our Lady of La Porteria.
One hopeful contestant, left, is Salve Cierva Garfin, 21 years old, height 5 feet and 4 inches, from San Roque.

The Parish of our Lady of La Porteria released the detailed religious “Solemn Patronal Celebraton” and schedule of activities during the feast day and town fiesta celebration.
We were at the town’s only public Catholic cemetery yesterday and visited our dear departed. Here in our place, as in the whole country, November 1st is designated by the church and the government as All Saints day.
Yesterday, during the pre-fiesta parade celebration, many of these institutions fielded representatives showcasing the showmanship, talent and faces of their students. Consider how long the parade went on with the long list of participants. They presented exhibition and action fronting the makeshift review grandstand, right into that commercial area, everybody calls the “Parada”.
Today, April 22nd is Earth Day. The international advocacy group Earth Day Network has chosen the theme “A Billion Acts of Green,” a people-powered campaign to generate a billion acts of environmental service and advocacy before Rio +20.
