Two devotees died while hundreds were treated for various ailments and injuries in Saturday’s Traslacion of the Black Nazarene in Manila.
Citing reports, one of the fatality was a devotee who accompanied the float of the Black Nazarene in the initial part of the procession.
The victim, a 27-year-old resident of Sampaloc, was declared dead at 11:40 a.m.
Another victim died prior to the start of the procession, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported.
Chief Insp. Kimberly Molitas, NCRPO spokesperson, identified the fatality as 48-year-old Mauro Arabit, a resident of Evangelista St., Quiapo.
He was declared dead on arrival at 3 a.m. by attending doctors at the Dr. Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
Quiapo rector and parish priest Msgr. Hernando Coronel said he was “very sad“ over the passing of 58-year-old Mauro Arabit and 27-year-old Alex Fulyedo.
