MANILA, April 10 –The P170.7-B North-South railway project- South Line to boost Bicol economy. The Bicol region will get the needed business and economic upliftment in the proposed P170.7 billion North-South Railway Project- South Line. Once completed, it is seen to considerably shorten the travel time from Manila to the region and pave the way for more business opportunities to relocate. The provinces that will get the most benefit will be Camarines Sur and Albay where the proposed rail line will mostly pass.
The project will involve the rehabilitation of existing (Philippine National Railways) line and adding new railway lines to link Manila to the region. With 653 kilometers of rail track, the railways project was approved by the National Economic Development Authority board on 16th of February which will be offered under the public-private partnership (PPP) infrastructure development scheme.
The Ayala Corporation Infrastructure Holdings Corporation said it intends to bid for the project and had started talks with potential partners but had not identified them yet. The government has not set a specific date for the tender, but would likely be within the year.
