Atty. Carol Sabio-Cruz narrates how the province of Albay warmly welcome Xian Lim as guest performer in the 1st
Fiesta Tsinoy Chinese Lunar New Year celebration on Thursday here. In return, Lim showed his true nature and demeanor, unbecoming and totally to the dismay of Bicolanos.
His publicist may come to his rescue but it is all over and he can do nothing to undo whatever his bad uncalled for behavior has done. Did he refused the t-shirt because it was “cheap” and not to his liking?
In a report by ABS-CBN:
“When I came over to see him,” Cruz said, “I welcomed him of course with the usual spiel. Hindi naman siya sumagot.”
According to Cruz, she offered Lim a seat before presenting him the souvenir items customarily given to guests — a shirt depicting the Mayon Volcano with the text “Albay” and a coffee table book about the province, among others.
“Sabi ko, ‘We have something for you.'” Referring to the shirt, Cruz said, “Hindi ko naipakita sa kanya because when I was trying to unfold it, hinawi na niya ‘yung kamay ko na, ‘Ayoko niyan.’
“So, okay, ‘Coffee table [book] nalang,’ sabi ko. Kasi parang napahiya ako, eh. Nung binasa niya, sabi niya, ‘I did not come here to promote Albay.’ Okay, iligpit na ‘yan at ayaw naman niya pala. That was really my last statement.”
The Albay official noted that past celebrity guests of the province had no qualms about accepting or even wearing the shirt. Cruz pointed out that when Queen Sofia of Spain visited Albay in 2012, the royalty gamely interacted with locals and wore the same shirt.
Albay governor Joey Lim is visibly irritated, postings in his official facebook page carry the natural ire of a Bicolano. More sympathetic netizens post on the account.
Do you know this guy named Xian Lim? He was invited by the Province of Albay to perform in the Fiestang Tsinoy at a huge fee. When he arrived in the airport yesterday, sa harap ng maraming tao, nireregaluhan ng tourism office ng coffee table book ng WARM ALBAY, tinanggihan; binibigyan ng libreng kamiseta, tinanggihan. Ang sabi: “I am not here to promote Albay!” Bastos. Walang modo. Hindi naturuan ng magulang ng tamang asal. Hindi naturuan ng manager nya. Mukha namang peke na Made in China.
