As alert Level 3 was raised as of 10 P.M. on Monday, the state institute of volcanology recommends that the six-kilometer radius permanent danger zone around Mt. Mayon in Albay province be enforced.

The agency advised that the southeastern flank of the restive volcano exposed to the danger of rock falls, landslides and sudden explosions or dome collapse that may generate hazardous volcanic flows.

Southern Luzon Command chief, Major Gen. Ricardo Visaya, on Wednesday announced that the number of families evacuated from the communities near Mount Mayon in Albay has now reached 2,222 families or 10,593 persons.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, Visaya said the figure can be broken down into: Tabaco City, 282 families; Guinobatan, 1,144 families; Camalig, 378; Ligao City, 18; and Malilipot with 400 families.

“… families have been evacuated by the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ humanitarian assistance disaster response teams headed by Col. Raul Farnacio, 901st Infantry Brigade commander,” according to Southern Luzon Command head Major Gen. Ricardo Visayaa.

“Forced evacuation will start in 60 barangays within the five to eight kilometers danger zone,” Visaya earlier said.

An estimated 10,000 families are expected to be evacuated.

An initial 50 trucks have been prepared for this effort, Visaya said.

Meanwhile, also directly affected by the enforced evacuation are farm and domesticated animals:

According to the Facebook page of Gov. Joey Salceda, there are 3,744 carabaos, 2,035 cattle, 5,576 swine, 19,304 poultry and 4,640 dogs in the 40 barangays 6km PDZ. And we have to budget P3 per head per day for their evacuation so families will have no alibi to go home or not to cooperate with the evacuation.
