CamSur wraps up weeklong revival of Kaogma Festival

PILI, Camarines Sur — After two years absence, the Kaogma (Happy) Festival of this province reopened Saturday, May 24th, in the capitol complex to a fiesta theme complete with free rides, rock-band concerts, pageants, boxing and variety shows with television and movie stars.

An excited Gov. Miguel Luis Villafuerte, announced “that it is a very special feelings” (sic) to be able to host, prepare and organize a festival, after nine years behind the scene.

The Kaogma Festival is the commemoration of the creation of the province through a Spanish decree on May 27, 1579.

Through the years, Kaogma has evolved in more ways than one. The celebration has became upbeat with colorful parades coupled with national and international sports events.

It must be recalled a year before the election last year the festival was set aside in favor of service caravans.

The governor said that this year, the activities in the province in hosting national and international events will be revived in coordination with the Department of Tourism until 2015.

He said there are already two international events slated next year while in July this year he will unveil a new tourism package for Camarines Sur, which include adventure activities in places other than the Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC) AND Caramoan.

The province will be launching an informative booklet that will guide on what else tourists can do in Camarines Sur much like the “Lonely Planet” type of activities. (Condensed from PNA report)
