The Commission on Elections in Bicol region is up to deleting a total of 169,193 voters from the list for failure to comply with the bio-metrics requirement.

Comelec regional director Atty. Romeo Fortes said non-compliant voters are up for delisted after the deadline set lapsed last October 31st. Fortes added the de-listed voters may file a petition for inclusion before municipal courts which will decide whether they would be allowed to register again.

There are 41,991 who failed to submit for biometrics registration in Albay, 14,345 in Camarines Norte, 67,655 in Camarines Sur, 2,160 in Catanduanes, 20,991 in Masbate and 22,051 in Sorsogon. Of these, 4,390 were classified as having incomplete biometrics.

Fortes said the Comelec is now hearing applications at the level of the Election Registration Board (ERB), which now governs registration process of voters.

The agency had received a total of 153,254 voters applications as of Oct. 31, the deadline set for such purpose.

ERBs have until Nov. 16 to hear the applications for registration, transfer of registration records, change/corrections of entries in the registration records, reactivation of registration records, inclusion of registration records and reinstatement of name in the list of voters, updating of records of persons with disabilities, senior citizens and members of the indigenous cultural communities or indigenous peoples and validation of registration of records.

As of Oct. 19, the region had 3,140,417 registered and qualified voters with biometrics broken down as follows: Albay-750,724; Camarines Norte-299,924; Camarines Sur-1,015,745; Catanduanes-169,006; Masbate-476,314 and Sorsogon-428,704. (PNA / Bobby Q. Labalan)
