Typhoon ‘Marilyn’ enters PAR Sunday

The typhoon east of Mindanao (international name: “In-Fa”) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Sunday and was renamed “Marilyn,” the 13th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year and first for this month of November, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA weather forecaster Robert Badrina said typhoon Marilyn entered the country at 4 p.m. and was located at 1,140 km East of Virac, Catanduanes (14.3N, 134.8E) with maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 25 kph.

The typhoon will enhance the northeast monsoon that will affect the Northern Luzon, by Tuesday the typhoon is expected to change its movement from west northwest to north northeast due to the presence of ridge of high pressure area.

By maitaining its speed the typhoon is expected to exit PAR by Wednesday evening or Thursday headed towards Japan.

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) remains the prevailing weather system that is currently affecting Mindanao.

The ITCZ affecting Mindanao is the thick clouds coming from the south of Asia and considered a breeding ground for low-pressure areas (LPAs) or potential cyclones.

In the next 24 hour forecast, PAGASA said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Mindanao, Bicol region, Eastern and Central Visayas while cloudy skies with light rains is expected over Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan group of island.(PNA)
