President Benigno S. Aquino III issued a directive for all heads of national government agencies and government-owned or controlled corporations to extend full assistance in the transition of Negros Island Region (NIR). The Memorandum Circular No. 81, was signed by Executive Paquito Ochoa Jr. on August 6.
Earlier on May 29, Aquino signed E0 number 183 creating the Negros Island Region, uniting the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
The order provided for the creation of the NIR-Technical Working Group composed of representatives of the Office of the President, Department of Budget and Management, National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Interior and Local Government, and representatives of the two provinces.
It also tasked the group to arrange the requirements for organizational development, staffing, and budgeting of regional line and regulatory agencies.
The memo requires all heads of national government agencies to extend full assistance to the NIR-TWG. The designation of interim Regional Directors will be effected no later than October 1, 2015. Organization and establishment of regional offices remains to be sen either in Bacolod City or Dumaguete City meantime that no specific area has been selected.
With the new Negros region, data abd assets of the two provinces will be transferred from Region VI and VII respectively.
