President Aquino will have a one-day visit in Chicago on May 6 for a meeting with the Filipino community as well as potential investors before traveling to Canada from May 7 to 9. In Canada, the president will meet with Governor General David Johnston and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Maria Andrelita Austria, Canada is the Philippines’ 21st top trading partner, saying that “from January to November 2014, our exports were at over $500 million and imports are $284 million.” Canada is considered the 14th source of development assistance and sixth top visitor market of the country.

Mr. Aquino will also have a round-table discussion with the Asia-Pacific Forum, a meeting with representatives of the Filipino community in Toronto and Vancouver. The presidential junket to Canada is the second for a Philippine head of state after President Fidel Ramos in 1997.
