LIBMANAN, Cam. Sur, March 17 — An official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and four of his men on board a police patrol car were critically wounded when they were ambushed by New People’s Army (NPA) at Sitio Binubon, Barangay Malinao, in this town, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police report identified the wounded officers brought to the Mother Seton Hospital as Chief Insp. Ruben Padua, Police Officer 3 (PO3) Jolan Aguinaldo, PO1 Leonil Fiesta, PO1 Sabroso and PO2 Jupiter Rubianes of the Camarines Sur Provincial Police Office (CSPPO).
The report said the rebels planted an improvised explosive device (IED) in the road where the policemen were to pass, but which was picked up by Aguinaldo and Rubianes. Earlier, it was the elements of the Philippine Army’s 22nd Infantry Battalion that discovered the planted improvised bomb,
The two police officers were about to bring this bomb to their station but did not notice that the rebels were already in ambush position. Philippine Army soldiers responded as the ambush area was just near their camp, saving the two police officers.
