The resignation of embattled Department of Health Secretary Enrique Ona has been accepted by the president. Malacanang announced yesterday that President Benigno S. Aquinoo III has finally accepted the resignation tendered by the health secretary.
“Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. informed Health Secretary Ona that the President has accepted his resignation effective today,” the Palace’s Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said.
Undisclosed sources said Ona submitted his resignation letter early this week, although there were reports he also filed a similar letter the day his month-long leave expired last Nov. 28.
Earlier, it was reported that Ona’s first resignation was declined by Aquino.
The extension of Ona’s leave was only for the duration when Aquino reviews the reports of Ona.
Ona is facing a number of cases which are more in the line of command responsibility or ministerial duties than corruption during his tenure as DOH head.
