Canada launches call for proposals for PhP 825-million livelihood, reconstruction assistance for ‘Yolanda’-affected communities. MANILA, Nov. 11 — The Government of Canada launched the Typhoon Haiyan Reconstruction Assistance Call for Proposals in Ottawa in commemoration of the first anniversary of typhoon ‘Yolanda’ (Haiyan) and as part of its ongoing assistance to the Philippines. Its embassy in the Philippines said this call for proposals, valued at up to Cad$20.6 million (approximately PhP 825 million) over a period of four years, is designed to help restore the livelihoods of people in the Philippines affected by typhoon Yolanda. It forms part of the Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund through which the Government of Canada matched the $85 million in eligible donations made by individual Canadians.

PH embassy in Yangon to showcase Filipino cuisine, products. NAY PYI TAW, Myanmar, Nov 11 — The Philippine Embassy is holding a Filipino food festival at Yangon, Myanmar’s economic capital. The event will feature Filipino dishes and other local products. The event will be held from November 26 to December 2 at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon, in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture. The event, dubbed “Linamnam Festival,” (meaning a festival of “tasty” Filipino dishes) aims to put the Philippines in the map of Myanmar. President Benigno S. Aquino III is set to attend the 25th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit to be held here on November 12 and 13. During the ASEAN Summit Plenary Session, the leaders will discuss and exchange views on the ASEAN Community 2015 and Beyond (Greater ASEAN Connectivity), as well as regional and international issues.
