Survey says 45% of respondents favor peaceful negotiations with MILF

smileredunhappyMANILA, May 9 — Surveys says 45% of respondents favor peaceful negotiations with MILF. What can cause a certain lift of joy when it is offered by pollsters? And to whom? For sure, this one does. The recent findings of Social Weather Stations (SWS) put a smile on the face of Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Teresita Quintos Deles. She who is one of those insistent that the Bangsamoro Basic law is the path to cure the restiveness in the Muslim south disregarding the fact that the area it is supposed to be placed into is composed of divided tribes.

The recent findings of pollster Social Weather Stations (SWS) was seen by OPPAP as a validation of the government’s efforts of pursuing peaceful resolution of armed conflict with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) for just and lasting peace in Mindanao.

According to the survey, 45% of respondents see peaceful negotiations as more effective in dealing with the MILF, while only 20% said military operations are more effective. The remaining 35% said both military operations and peaceful negotiations are equally effective. It was conducted nationwide from March 20 to 23, in the aftermath of the tragedy in Mamasapano which claimed almost 70 lives last January.

Yet, while purporting to be conducted nationwide, there were only 1,200 respondents. As far as we know, there are a hundred plus million Flipinos now in the country. And who paid for the survey? Polls are sometimes conducted to the delight of those interested of the guided result they want to ferret out. If it came from the nation’s coffers, it is nothing but another cheap ploy to push the BBL’s approval.

On the second thought, the result of the survey was nothing but useless and total waste of funds, for the Philippine government has actually been negotiating with the MILF for years now that is why the BBL and the Bangsamoro entity is up for passage and creation. Heck.
