Legazpi City, Aug.16 — Albay provincial risk management council alerted local officials on the possibility of evacuation of residents living in the perimeters of the permanent 6-KM danger zone of Mount Mayon.

Earlier, the state volcanology institute raised alert level 2 after an abnormal activity was observed on the volcano.

In alert level 2 the alarming volcanic activity continues, traced to its magmatic origin, which could possibly ignite an explosion of pyroclastic materials from its crater.

While crater glow is absent, the observation team has observed the formation of lava dome near its crater.

An estimatated 500 tons of sulphur daily has been emitted in the past two months while 850 tons has been released in the past 24 hours alone.

The abrupt changes observed is an indication of the rising volcanic gas emission and the possibility of magma.

Evacuation centers are in the standby mode as various government agencies are monitoring 24/7 on the developing volcanic activity.

According to the Phivolcs website Mayon seismic network recorded one volcanic earthquake and a single rock fall event in the past 24 hours. Also, moderate emission of white steam plumes that drifted south-southwest and southwest was observed.
