Consider this alarming facts that already a total of 758 new HIV cases have been recorded by the HIV/AIDS and ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP) as of November, bringing the current total to 38,872.

The breakdown shows about 96 percent of the cases are male and more than half belong to the 25-34 age group.

By age group, twenty nine per cent percent belong to those in 15-24 years of age.

By geographical location and incidence, the National Capital Region (NCR) has the most number of reported cases up to 301.

The Calabarzon region records 108 cases followed by Central Luzon with 73, Central Visayas with 72 and Davao with 47.

Also included in the recorded count are pregnant women such as three in the NCR, and one each in Central Viasyas and Caraga region.

HIV is transmitted through unprotected sexual contact, needle sharing among injecting drug users, and mother-to-child transmission. A majority of the infections were obtained through men who have sex with men (MSMs).

Not a surprise at all. The regions with many incidence of HIV infections are in heavily populated and metro areas. What can you expect. Metro sexuals and BPO extablishments, too.
