Things are moving fast. At least in the rush to find a cure, or halt the pandemic new coronavirus from China or Covid-19.
This we learned as the Federal Drug Administration (USA) and Gilead Sciences, Inc. (a research-based biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of innovative medicines) move to ‘quickly’ get remdesivir into the patients afflicted with Covid-19.
Observers noted that this whirlwind response is a complete turn about in the usual norm of the agency which in normal times take a usual course of delays.
Doubting thomases aplenty dispute the effectiveness of the drug, despite that, the company earlier announced some positive data from a NIAD (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) study earlier today- that the drug had met its ‘target’ of shortening recovery time.
NIAD’s Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed “remdesivir reminded him of the early day on studies of AZT during the AIDS outbreak.” Fauci earlier mentioned results of the study showed the drug could ‘block’ the virus.

In a statement, Gilead Sciences said it was “aware of positive dte emerging from” the study of the institute.
Remdesivir is not yet licensed or approved in the United States or anywhere in the world “and has not yet been demonstrated to be safe or effective for the treatment of Covid-19,” according to Gilead.
However, while researchers found that the “target” data – time to recovery – saw significant improvement, the 3.6 percentage point move in mortality was not “statistically significant” as Dr. Fauci acknowledged.

Still, the FDA will be working with Gilead to try and get the drug approved and available as quickly as possible. A complete report on the study will be released at a later date.
