LEGAZPI CITY, June 14 (PNA) — Chief Supt. Victor P. Deona, Bicol Regional Police Office director, sacked 28 chiefs of police and an intelligence officer in Bicol after they failed to pass the performance target set for them.

Deona announced in a press conference Friday that the officers removed from posts are from Sorsogon, 7; Masbate, 4; Catanduanes, 6; Albay, 5; Camarines Sur, 4; and Camarines Norte, 3.

The officers’ performance target, he said, is part of the Integrated Transformation Program of the Philippine National Police.

The sacked officers will undergo refresher training, the PNP regional chief said.

Deona said that for heads of offices to maintain their positions, they should pass the accomplishment target on criminality campaign, police-community relations, gender awareness, community organization and mobilization, police assistance and personnel development.

The performance evaluation is being done every three months and in this case, it was based on the results of the February-April accomplishments.

Based on police records in the region, there are 30,000 loose and unrenewed firearms, distributed as follows: Camarines Sur, 11,000; Albay, 7,829; Masbate, 4,403; Camarines Norte, 2,860; Sorsogon, 2,777; and Catanduanes, 694.

Deona said that although there were officers removed from their positions, others got high ratings in the performance evaluation.

Number one in the ranking is the Lupi (Camarines Sur) Municipal Police Office with a grade of 75.8 percent; followed by the Gainza (also in Camarines Sur) MPO with a rating of 74.38 percent and the Masbate City PO with 69.3 percent grade.

The PNP regional office is serving 114 municipalities and seven cities and Deona does not discount the possibility that soon most of these will be run by lady police officers.

He did not reveal the names of the officers removed from the posts to safeguard their honor.

Deona said these officers can still be chiefs of police but no longer in the municipal or city police offices that they had been assigned.(PNA)
