PNP orders private security agencies to muzzle-tape all firearms

MANILA — The Philippine National Police has issued a directive to all operators, managers and security officers of police security agency, police detective agency, company guard forces and government security units to conduct muzzle taping of all their firearms. This is in line with the agency program to prevent the occurrence of illegal discharge of firearms by irresponsible gun owners during the holidays.

The directive is in connection with the simultaneous implementation among provincial units and regional offices that issued firearms on PNP personnel are not used other than in the performance of their sworn duties as law enforcers.

According to Police Chief Superintendent Tomas Rentoy III, all Private Security Agencies are required to submit report of compliance with pictorials not later than January 15, 2014 together with their monthly report for the month of December 2013. Failure by any security agency and security personnel will face appropriate charges or even dismissal from the service.

Muzzle taping of all FAs issued or deployed to all security guards is on December 30, 2013 and the unsealing was scheduled on the 2nd day of January 2014. (PNA)
