The second highest elected official, Vice President Leni Robredo graced the 2019 Ramon Magsaysay foundation awards presentation ceremonies which transpired at the Cultural Center of the Philippines complex in Pasay city.
The VPOP talks about the need to be wellsprings of perpetual hope before guests and awardees.
Her address was presumably addressed not only to people present but to the people of the nation and the rest of Asia facing grave challenges on the enjoyment of basic freedom, and more.
Watch her full speech below:
By coincidence, the late husband of VP Robredo, the former mayor of Naga City (Bicol) and former (short-termed) secretary of Local Government received a Magsaysay Award some 19 years ago, in the same venue.
But what is more interesting was Robredo’s reminding the audience of the prevailing instances when some leaders resort to becoming authoritarians during their tenure of governance.
