Unboxing review of Samsung EVO Select micro-SD card.

Just before I went on a 4-month leave from my channel for quick travel and long vacation, I left behind video projects hanging which include a review on the microSD card I ordered online.

I am referring to the micro SD card manufactured by Samsung, the EVO select SD card.

I needed one for my digital camera enough to give me confidence I can take videos for hours and hours without worrying I would run out of recording media, and at the same time and the most important, is that it should be commpatible with the camera.

Welcome to this edition of Cbanga360 inMotion.

Hello, thanks for dropping by for this unboxing and review.

So here we have this tiny pack with a memory card.

This mini memory card offers and promises, it is of Ultra High Speed or (UHS) Speed class 10 user interface of performance and can sustain at least 10 mega bits per second of continuous write speed for high definition recording.

This new generation EVO Select card offers higher read speed compared with the early and maybe standard EVO SD cards.

The cards are available in the market which range from 32, 64, 128 gigabyte capacities and if you need more it goes upwards which could suit particular needs. Just be prepared for the equivalent cost, of course.

I opted for the 128GB which is the unit I can afford aleady streching my budget but still I thought is much suited for my needs.

I am made to believe that this tiny thing can be used to record and play 4K UHD video. Technology wise, it is ultra-fast with a read speed of 100MB/second and write speeds up to 90MB per second. To illustrte further, a 3GB video on the card can be transferred to a notebook in just 38 seconds. I should say, it will also depend on the specs snd capacity of the notebook too.

That makes the Samsung EVO Plus the fastest microSDXC solution offered by SamsunG and the fastest microSD card in the market. With massive amounts of storage the 128GB EVO Select is enough memory for daily use.

This card was built to be durable with a rating of 10,000 mating cycles and an impressive 10-year warranty.

Mating cycle means the number of times it can be inserted and ejected into the computer slot or the camera. So that keeping this with me for ten years I can install and remove it 2.74 times per day for ten years.

Samsung also did internal compatibility tests and found that the EVO Plus series was compatible on more than 1,200 devices that include phones, tablets, digital still cameras and digital video cameras in their testing. It comes with an SD adapter which fits most devices.

It should also be noted that the Samsung EVO Plus microSD series cards are all waterproof, X-ray machine proof, magnetic-proof equivalent to an MRI scanner. I have proven this since on my latest flight I had the memory card inside the camera and it was scanned many times at airports and still my footages were not affected. Plus, it can also withstand operating temperatures ranging from -25 degrees C to 85 degrees C.

Previous to this mini-card, I already have one 64 GB Samsung Evo mini-card and 2sets of 16 GB microsd card by PNY. That is why I am confident enough this new purchase will give me the same high level of quality performance, reliability and durability.

But with all these specs, it still fell a notch lower when used on my Sony 4k videocam. Per my personal testing and usage, the 128GB can record:

  • 10 hours and 32 minutes 60 frames per second on a file format resolution of 1920×1080 or 1080p high definition
  • or, 12 hours and 26 minutes on HD highest quality 1080p of 24 frames per second
  • or , 4 hours and 26 minutes of 4k resolution with 30 frames per second

The downside of this card is that my camera needs an SD card with a write speed of 100mb per second to film 4K resolution with 60 frames per second. This card has a write speed of 90 mb per second only.

But as a whole since I am not filming 4K 60 frames per second,, it is good enough for me.
